A website can be used for many different purposes depending on the type of organisation you are. For businesses, especially small businesses who cannot afford or justify the expense of a television advertising campaign, the Web provides an extremely cost-effective medium for reaching customers. For voluntary and community sector organisations such as charities and other not-for-profit bodies, the Web provides a means of promoting your cause, fund-raising and keeping your membership and customers up to date with your latest projects.
We can help you get your message across by working closely with you, helping you to focus on your objectives and what you hope to achieve through your website and making sure that it is constructed in such a way that your intended audience will find it helpful and easy to use.
back to topWebsites need to be accessible to as many people as possible. We are committed to designing websites that comply with the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). For more information on accessibility please check out our accessibility page.
back to topRather than offer a range of development packages at fixed prices, our approach is to calculate the cost of a project based on what the client actually wants.
This way, our clients pay only for what they want to be in the website rather than what's in a given package. This flexibility means that you could get more for your money than you would from a generic package.
Voluntary and community organisations will receive a discount on production of either a registered charity number (if a registered charity) or a letter from their Council for Voluntary Services (CVS). Details of your local CVS can be found on the National Association of Councils for Voluntary Service website.
back to topYou should understand that building a website is easy but building an effective website that makes an impact and achieves its purpose is much harder. Therefore, the design and development process must be a partnership between the client and the developer.
This section will take you through the design and development stage step by step. By the end, you will understand what your minimum commitment and involvement will be at each stage of the project.
This half-day session will develop your thoughts about what you want to include in your website. It will identify the most appropriate structure for the website and will generate the detailed brief that will be used to design and develop it.
You will need to sign-up with a hosting company in order to have somewhere on the internet to put your website. Most hosting companies will have package where you can buy hosting and a domain name at the same time. A domain name is a friendly name for your website so that it is easy to find. For example, www.crystalwebdesign.co.uk is the domain name of this website.
The provision of content for your website will be one of your main commitments in the creation of your website.
Content is everything that appears on your website - text, graphics, photographs and so on. Obviously, we can help you with each of these.
This stage will determine the look and feel of your website. We will build the home page and one other page so that you can provide feedback on the design direction. We will not proceed to the next stage until you are happy with the results of this stage.
This stage will complete the rest of the website.
During this stage your website will be quality checked for spelling mistakes and for errors in the code. Then it will be checked to ensure it passes the agreed accessibility standard.
You will be required for proof-reading the text to ensure it says what you intended (it will be what you said because it will have been copied from electronic copies supplied by you).
This stage ensures that your website has the best possible ratings in search engines. This stage will continue for a few weeks after the official launch as it takes a little time for the search engines to find and index your website.
In this stage your completed website is published on your host's web server.
